All About CAT

CAT or Common Admission Test is an All India Test, conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to shortlist candidates for the various management programs. Normally, the CAT exam is a prerequisite to filter the best candidates, and later on, interviews are taken by many colleges to offer final admit to the best candidates. Apart from IIM, many other colleges like FMS, SP Jain, MDI, JBIMS, IITs MBA, etc consider CAT score while giving admissions

Admission Criteria

So as to shortlist candidates for the interview rounds, institutes normally consider many other aspects like 10th score, 12th score, graduation score and background, gender, etc. a different weightage is given to all these aspects which differ for every college. Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of CAT is what makes it the most unique and interesting paper to deal with. The aspirants need to put in a lot of time and effort to properly prepare for the CAT exam.

The sequence of the section is in the same order as given in the above table. The candidates cannot switch between the sections and after one section is done, it is auto-submitted and hence after the time is up, responses cannot be changed. It means the CAT is not a single paper but combinations of 3 different papers happening at one go.

There are two types of questions that come in the CAT exam.

  1. Multiple choice question (MCQ) – here the candidate has to select one option from the 4 given options. Every correct answer fetches +3 and every wrong answer fetches -1 marks. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions.
  2. Type in the Answer (TITA) – here the candidate has to type the answer by using the virtual keyboard provided on-screen during the exam. Every correct answer fetches +3 and there is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions.
